make it monday #233…

Hello everyone. I took a little time to play with my watercolors and participate in this past weeks PTI Make It Mondays’ challenge. Watercolors are just so very delightful and it’s so easy to become absorbed in the colors and movement of the paints, forgetting everything else around me!  This challenge uses splatters somewhere in the piece. Step 1; Heat emboss the stamped image with white embossing powder. Step 2; Flicked masking fluid onto the dry water color paper. Step 3; Watercolor just for the fun of it!…

I used a stiff, dense bristle brush to make many small flecks of masking fluid. I wanted to achieve a sweeping effect. It reminds me of blowing snow, but could just as easily be interpreted as the milky way…

There was one larger droplet in the sky, which was quickly treated to some metallic silver water color paint…a silvery moon!

A simple greeting was stamped with grey ink. It’s darker than I would have liked, but still acceptable…

The card base was made from two separate panels. I used a ‘Beaded Ruffle’ edge punch to give the inside a more finished appearance, where the front panel overlaps the back panel.

I’m off to work on a few more pieces that I’ve already heat embossed with the same tree image. Yippee!

Hi Rebecca, Lovely card and nice reminder about using masking for snow before water coloring but I was really impressed with your simple but so effective use of the border punch, a die would work, too, for the finish on the hinge. I never thought of doing that but it solves the problem of covering the hinge or hiding it in the back of the card. Thanks so much for sharing a great tip. Bet you get paid big bucks for thinking outside the box. Well, you should. Your work is always so good and I look forward to all your offerings.

Beautiful card! I too, love playing with watercolours, but I never thought to get out my Frisket! Great idea, as it does give a different look. You’ve inspired me to try that for my remaining few Christmas cards 😉

  • What a beautiful, beautiful snowy scene…love it!! :0)
