thinking of spring…

Hello dear friends.  Don’t throw snowballs at me, but spring has sprung here in the southwestern desert!  Trees are bursting their buds and weeds are popping up at an obscene pace!!  What looks like the tiniest dot of green is 3-4″ high the next day~ That’s spring in the desert southwest.  Flowers are in full glory and the hollyhocks and sweet peas are zooming right along.  February has been full of 70 and 80° temps, making this the shortest ‘winter’ (desert style), that I can recall.  Honestly, I’m not ready to put my sweaters or fleece away, but mother nature didn’t ask my opinion!  Hymmmmph.  For those of you with frozen toes and blue noses, Heather’s new challenge called, ‘Thinking of Spring’, is a welcome subject.  Here’s what I created with her beautiful ‘Vintage Chic Victorian Lilacs Envelope’ file…

PaperPrimrose MAA1

I made this card to please my own shabby chic, vintage loving heart, beginning by mixing some soft and sweet papers, layered with trims and perfect pearls in my new favorite ‘platinum’ color…

PaperPrimrose MAA2

The envelope was fussy cut along with the lilac spray from another envelope in mirror image.  A snip of lilacs from the second cutout was placed under the lower left corner and the rest of the lilac is positioned on the upper right, behind the flap.  Some more perfect pearls outline the envelope.  Pan pastels were used to color the doily (on the right) with some peachy-pink and soft green.  A set of wings was colored with copics and topped with a button and is flying out of the envelope…

PaperPrimrose MAA3

The sentiments were snipped from the printed sheet and edged with distress stickles in Bundled Sage.  A little bird came from a container I keep on my desk, of little papery embellishments that didn’t make it onto projects and were too fussy to put away.  It found a job delivering the sentiment…

PaperPrimrose MAA4

The card base was a quarter of an inch shy on the back page so I punched an edge in green card stock and adhered it to the inside.  Some wonderful heather ric rac was placed over the join.  The bonus is that it dresses up the interior with very little effort!

So now, it’s time for you to create, with spring in mind!  Please join us for this challenge at My Artistic Adventures!

I’ll be entering this into the following challenges;

Warm, sunny wishes, bountiful blessings and ((hugs)),

I saw my first garden-blooming daffodils at my neighbors yesterday. Mine will be along soon….she gets way more light at her house at the top of the hill. 🙂
