a sewer’s pocket…

Hello everyone and  welcome!  Today at Frilly and Funkie, begins our new challenge.  It’s hosted by Cec and she has called it, ‘On the Runway’.  She’s asking that we tailor our projects (punny..he, he) to sewing and fashion. I’ve created a pocket full of tags, intended for a sewer….

I had such a good time, fussy cutting images and arranging all the packets, ribbon and thread cards, postcards and graceful ladies from Pion’s collection called, ‘Alma’s Sewing Room’.  The patterns of the papers and items are wonderfully vintage and done in the softest shades…

The pocket is a single piece of patterned paper that is stitched up the sides, with a half circle punched at the top edge. Because all the papers are double sided, there’s a large range to choose from! This charming vintage figure is reading a letter while she absentmindedly holds the clothes line.  The garments are all from a sheet too.  A scattering of buttons and teeny tiny spools wound with threads…

a brass charm of vintage scissors and a short length of a wooden ruler (stained a dusty blue), run along the bottom edge on top of some cotton trim…

Some tulle trim, a band of ribbon and mismatched buttons embellish the edge.  There’s a needle packet (which really is a packet and holds a special gold plated sharp) and a vintage thread advertisement as well…

These are all the tag tops that peek out of the pocket.  I love a full, overflowing look and tags are so much fun to make!  All the papers and fussy cut items that are in Alma’s Sewing Room, made this quick work  Before beginning, I assembled grey and cream buttons, trims and ribbons.  Don’t you love the flowered chintz covered buttons?  I scattered them among the plains.  Seam binding was hand dyed with distress re-inkers.  Mixing the inks is a wonderful way to get just the color you want…

Three large tags…

and two more tags.  There are some additional sewing themed postcards and vintage ads that I’ll be including too.  It’s my plan to include trims for use, a needle threader, seam ripper and a few other small sewing notions that will be placed in glassine bags before finding their home in the pocket.  Some personal sentiments will finish off this little gift.

Thanks so much for stopping by~

Blessings and ((hugs)),

This is absolutely fantastic and has so many vintage goodies to look at. I didn’t realize there was a Pion paper with this theme and you have taken it leaps and bounds past the flat stage. I love all the goodies on the tags.
