lacey, heartsy valentines…

At Frilly and Funky, Terry is challenging us to create an altered book cover, journal, bag, purse or whatever you can think of, so long as it has a heart and lace included in it.  I’ve had some heart shaped, fluted tins intended for baking that I’ve kept tucked away, just waiting to create with!

I began by filling the inside surface with patterned paper and then a second layer, cut down the middle with the edges rolled back.  I used some new Prima zipper pulls to accentuate the separation and adding little surprises, spilling out of the opening.  This one has a bouquet of flowers tumbling out along with a tiny butterfly appliqué.  Hand dyed seam binding used as a hanger and also in a double bow, accenting the top of the heart.  A fabulous little white lace trim from The Funky Junky Boutique, surrounds the outside edge of the tin…

I repeated the bouquet on a second tart tin, using silver trim this time…

For a different ‘look’, I layered a brass key on top of a wonderful white lace heart appliqué, a small red flower appliqué onto the key and adding a heart with ‘dangles’ to the bottom of the tray…

This heart has an angelic little figure that is being revealed by the zipper pull.  I liked the small lace border so much, I used it and some hand dyed seam binding on each heart.

Thank you Terry for such a great challenge idea!  I love the way this idea just presented itself once I heard about your challenge and it was such fun making them!

*Hugs*
