handmade keepsake box…

I’ve had an idea in my head about a keepsake treasure box.  One that a man could give the special woman in his life or that a friend of a bride could give as a special gift.  Someplace to keep the little treasures of life…I have little notes that my husband has left on my computer after staying up late to fix a problem, as well as those very special letters that he’s written for birthdays or anniversaries and ticket stubs from events we’ve shared.  You should know, that when he asks what I would like for an upcoming occasion, I often say, ‘I would like a letter from you.’  I don’t think this is quite the answer he’s looking for ;) , but it is my preference!  Wouldn’t a special box to hold these treasured memories be a lovely project?!

This week, City Crafter Challenge is about making a gift.  Just the perfect opportunity to create this box!  I started with a ‘repurposed’, sturdy, box that once presented some Philosophy products.  It is sturdy and ties closed in the front with black grosgrain ribbons.  The edges of the box are black, the interior is black and the lid and sides need decoration to cover the logos!  I set to work, grabbing some favorite bits and bobs to make it pretty…

In my enthusiasm, I forgot to take a ‘before’ photo of the box!

Some solid pink paper, then some pink and cream striped papers were applied to the sides and lid…

A lovely quote from Crafters Secrets, set behind a resin frame from Prima.  The frame was a chalk white, so I applied some stain and then wiped it off while wet, just to give it a light antiqued finish.

A band of heavily re-embroided trim along the top, and some 2″ wide, hand dyed silk, satin ribbons tied into a luxurious bow.  Some mulberry flowers and leaves attached to some ‘vines’ (wires wrapped in mulberry paper) that I wrapped around a brush handle and pencil to create tendrils, entwined with strings of pearls.  In the corner, a tiny black jet butterfly…

In the lower left corner, some paper and fabric flowers with some velvety millinery leaves and a faceted black jet flourish, sitting on a gathered fan of silk ribbon…

The inside is accented with some over-the-top black and cream period papers.  You can see a ribbon peeking out from the bottom~ it ties to one set between the lid and body, to keep the contents safely within…

Thanks for your visit!

*Hugs*

Rebecca
