flying the colors…

My Dad was in the military for most of his adult life and even after he had retired from service, he was military through and through.  He liked nothing better than to go to a local base, eat in the Officers’ Mess and poke around the BX (base exchange-like a mini department store for the soldiers and families who serve). He even loved going to the barber on the base and being saluted onto the base by security at the gate.  He loved this country with a passion and loved serving.  He was also quite a character, but only when he wasn’t on duty!

Since tomorrow is Memorial Day, I made a patriotic card, that is suitable for someone currently in the military, a veteran or any American!

I used Papertrey Inks’ stamp set called, ‘Est. 1776’, along with their die cuts from ‘Sending You’ and ‘Star Borders’.  The stars on the blue panel are embossed with white Filagree powder and the inks used for the rest are ‘Pure Poppy’ and ‘Enchanted Evening’, also from PTI.

Play Date Cafes’ challenge #133 is using these colors.  You can visit their site HERE and below, is their inspiration.

Card Patterns Weekly Sketch Blog can be found HERE and this is the sketch I worked from…

My heart and prayers go out to the families and loved ones of those who sacrificed their lives in service of this country.

Hoping you Memorial Day is wonderful and safe.
